Graduate Program Admission Criteria
BSN to MSN-FNP, BSN to MSN-NAL, BSN to DNP-FNP, BSN to DNP-NAL, Post Masters DNP
ONLINE APPLICATION
Completion of online application. There is no application fee.
Application is valid for one (1) admission cycle. New application must be completed after one (1) year.
PROOF OF IDENTITY
Upload a copy of your driver’s license, state ID, or passport.
REGISTERED NURSE LICENSURE
All Master’s Programs
Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Illinois.
All Doctoral Programs
Current licensure as a registered nurse in the state where your practicum clinical hours will be completed.
NURSING PROGRAM COMPLETION
Completion of a bachelor’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Post-Master’s Doctoral Program Only
Completion of a master’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited nursing program.
OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS
Official transcripts from all regionally accredited institutions attended, sent directly from the granting institution to St. John’s College.
Cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 in all nursing courses.
RESUME OR CV
The resume or CV should include education, work history, licensure and certifications, awards, and affiliations (professional memberships).
PROFESSIONAL REFERENCES
Three professional letters of reference from professors and/or colleagues that speak to the applicant’s academic abilities, professional qualifications, and readiness for a graduate nursing program.
PERSONAL ESSAY
The personal essay should be one to two pages double-spaced detailing professional goals, desired advance practice area, and how a graduate degree will promote goal achievement. The personal essay should include a paragraph detailing clinical practice experience in the past three (3) years and area of nursing specialty.
IN-PERSON OR REMOTE INTERVIEW
Once the application is submitted, a thirty (30) minute in-person interview either on campus or via virtual (e.g., Zoom) will be scheduled with the applicant.
