Degree Requirements 

Our students must complete the required number of hours and have the specified GPA for their program. See below for more information by program. 

Bachelor of Science in Nursing


To be eligible for the bachelor of science in nursing degree a student must satisfactorily:

  1. Complete all specified courses in the curriculum plan; the equivalent of 121 semester hours
  2. Complete a minimum of 30 semester hours at St. John's College of Nursing
  3. Attain a minimum 2.0 GPA for each course offered at the college
  4. Be free and clear of financial and/or institutional holds before applying for graduation
  • Students completing in summer may participate in May ceremonies.
  • Students enrolled in the accelerated program may participate in December ceremonies.
  • Students enrolled in the RN-BSN program may participate in the May or December ceremonies depending on the date of completion.
  • All graduation requirements must be met within four years of enrollment in the college. Students preparing to graduate must file an application for graduation.

Master of Science in Nursing

To be eligible for a master of science in nursing degree, a student must satisfactorily meet both the general requirements to the master's program and the specific requirements of the specialty track in which they are enrolled.

Specific requirements include:

  1.  The equivalent of 45 semester hours for the Nurse Practitioner track including clinical requirements
  2. The equivalent of 38 hours for the Nurse Administration and Leadership track including clinical requirements
  3. Attain a minimum of 3.0 GPA for all courses offered at the college. Credit hours toward the degree and not granted for courses with a grade below B. All grades are included in computing the grade point average.
  4. Be free and clear of the financial and/or institutional holds before applying for graduation.
  • Students completing in summer may participate in May or December commencement ceremonies. 
  • All graduation requirements must be met within four years of enrollment in the college. Students preparing to graduate must file an application for graduation.

Graduating with Honors

Students completing a minimum of 30 semester hours of required nursing courses at St. John's College of Nursing may earn the distinction of graduating with honors. Honors are designated as: 

Summa Cum Laude    3.90 - 4.0

Magna Cum Laude     3.75 - 3.89

Cum Laude     3.5 - 3.74
