St. John's College Alumni
About us
St. John’s College grew from a training program founded in 1886 by the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis to train Sisters becoming the first Catholic Hospital School of Nursing in the United States. As time passed, the college expanded to include lay persons, with the first three lay women graduating in 1916, when the first graduation ceremony was held on June 30, 1916 (McDougall, Sr. A. (‘86). 1886-1986, One Hundred Years of Excellence in Nursing Education, The History of St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing, Springfield, Illinois).
The St. John’s College Alumni Association members include graduates from the diploma school and the College of Nursing. Many St. John’s alumni generously support current students with scholarships helping to educate the next generation of nurses.
