St. John’s College of Nursing is pleased to announce the start of its Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in the Fall of 2022. The Doctor of Nursing Practice degree is a 34-credit semester hour, post-master’s program that will be offered completely online with a practicum component.

The length of time for students to complete the DNP program is four semesters full-time, or six semesters part-time. The first cohort of doctorate students can begin to graduate as early as Fall of 2023. For full-time study, the semesters are fall, spring and summer the first year and then the final semester the following fall. For part-time study, the six semesters are fall, spring, summer the first year and then fall, spring, summer the second year.

“We are excited to offer nurses a manageable way to advance their education beyond our masters programs,” said Dr. Charlene Aaron, chancellor of St. John’s College. “Whether it is in a direct care or systems leadership role, DNP-prepared nurses are needed more than ever to implement innovative delivery systems and help address the financial, operational and quality challenges of providing health care services.”

A doctoral degree is also often required to teach graduate nursing education, and many states are moving to requiring a DNP degree as a minimum credential for an APRN license.

Applications for Fall 2022 are being accepted. For questions please call 217-525-5628 or email admissions@sjcs.edu.
