Emergency & Trauma Center

HSHS St. Vincent Hospital's Emergency Department and Level II Regional Trauma Center are always ready to care for emergency and trauma patients.

group of emergency care physicians and providers bringing a patient into surgery

Our center is staffed with board-certified emergency medical physicians, an experienced team of trauma surgeons, certified emergency and trauma nurses, and other specialists available at a moment's notice.

When seconds count, you can count on HSHS St. Vincent Hospital's Regional Emergency and Trauma Center to provide the treatment needed. Trauma centers offer more extensive care than emergency departments. The difference between a trauma center and emergency room can be life and death. It's important to understand what your local hospitals offer.

In any emergency situation, always call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

The emergency department team will assess the patient's condition and determine if the patient should be treated by specialists in a trauma center.

Trauma Center

Trauma is a severe injury caused by physical force, such as a vehicle crash, gunshots, knife wounds, falls, battery or burns. A trauma center provides the best medical care—fast—so that you can increase your chances of surviving a life-threatening injury.

HSHS St. Vincent Hospital has the most experience with trauma—we’ve provided our community with a trauma center long before other hospitals in the region, verified as a Level II trauma center in 1998. Trauma verification is a rare distinction, reserved only for hospitals demonstrating the highest level of care. We are one of two Level II trauma centers in Northeast Wisconsin and one of five Level II trauma centers in the state of Wisconsin.

American College of Surgeons Verified Trauma Center Logo

Our trauma center is verified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma and designated as a Level II trauma center by the State of Wisconsin.  Level II ACS verification is the highest ranking a non-university-affiliated emergency center can attain. ACS verification confirms HSHS St. Vincent Hospital provides the highest level of trauma care possible for injured patients.
