HSHS will offer three, 18-month fellowships beginning in July.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Internship

This cardiac rehab student internship opportunity is available through Prairie Heart Institute at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Student interns can expect to:

  • Gain experience in patient care planning, patient evaluation and assessment, reading telemetry and teaching.
  • Work with patients in both an individual and group setting.
  • Observe procedures like open heart surgery, cardiac catheterization lab interventions, metabolic stress tests and cardiovascular diagnostic procedures.

Degree program that might benefit include:

  • Bachelor's in Exercise Science
  • Masters in Exercise Physiology
  • Physical Therapy
  • Health Science with an emphasis in Health & Wellness

High School Bootcamp Program

HSHS High School Bootcamp offers high school students:

  • Awareness of various health care careers.
  • Opportunity to learn from and interact with HSHS health care professionals.
  • Knowledge of how health care teams work together to provide quality patient care.
  • Job shadowing in their areas of interest.

Winter and summer cohorts are offered at several locations throughout south-central Illinois and eastern Wisconsin. Applications are accepted each October for the winter session and in April for the summer session.
