Substance use disorders, or addiction, affects people of all ages. From teens to adults, addiction can harm not only the addict but their families as well.

Are you concerned about your drinking or drug use?

The following CAGE Assessment is a 4 question screening about alcohol and/or drug use. If you answer yes to 1 or more questions, please call (920) 498-8600 or contact us today.

  • Have you ever felt you ought to cut down on your drinking or drug use?
  • Have people annoyed you by criticizing your drinking or drug use?
  • Have you felt bad or guilty about your drinking or drug use?
  • Have you ever had a drink or used drugs first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or to get rid of a hangover (eye-opener)?

Signs and Symptoms in Adolescents and Adults

  • Deteriorating grades or lack of school attendance
  • Unexplained changes in personality or attitude
  • Change to a negative peer group
  • Underage drinking fines and other legal problems
  • Apparent drunkenness or hangovers
  • Unexplained depletion of liquor or medication supplies
  • Physical evidence such as liquor bottles, drug paraphernalia, pill containers
  • Theft from parents or siblings
  • Disrespect and unwillingness to follow rules or family structure
  • Disappearing for days at a time
  • Evidence of huffing – unexplained depletion of aerosol products, solvents, household cleaners
  • Changes in energy levels, appetites, sleep pattern and hygiene

  • Complaints from family members or friends about drinking or drug use
  • Failed attempts to quit or cut back
  • Hiding the evidence of drinking or use
  • Increasing tolerance of alcohol or other substance
  • Legal charges such as driving while intoxicated or possession of drugs
  • Neglecting responsibilities in order to drink or use
  • Blackouts or memory lapses associated with use
  • Health, job, family life or financial issues resulting from use
  • Continued use even with negative consequences to health, job, family life or finances
