New sign shines light on Green Bay’s first and only children’s hospital, marks milestone in multi-million-dollar renovation project

February 07, 2022

Green Bay, Wis. – An HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital sign is now prominently displayed outside HSHS St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay: A symbol of the children’s hospital’s commitment to providing exceptional pediatric care, and a milestone in HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital’s multi-million-dollar renovation efforts to enhance pediatric patient care and experiences.

On Feb. 2, 2022, the illuminated sign weighing 500 pounds and measuring nearly 13 feet high and 22 feet wide was installed approximately 80 feet up on to the hospital’s red, brick exterior near the corner of Webster Ave. and Porlier St.

HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital is located within the walls of HSHS St. Vincent Hospital at 835 S. Van Buren St. in Green Bay. It is a “hospital within a hospital” comprised of hundreds of dedicated physicians, nurses, technicians and caregivers specializing in pediatric emergency care, hematology and oncology care, child life services, and care within the pediatric and pediatric intensive care units and Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The hospital’s partnership with Prevea Health also provides patients access to general pediatric care and a wide range of specialty care for children in clinic and hospital settings.

As HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital is designed and operated with kids in mind, HSHS St. Vincent Hospital continues to provide expert medical care to all in need of trauma and emergency, surgical, stroke and cancer care, and more. HSHS St. Vincent Hospital and HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital, which are part of a nonprofit, Catholic-based health care system, serve thousands of children and families from across Northeast Wisconsin, the Lakeshore and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula each year.

The HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital sign installation on Feb. 2 also marks a milestone in the hospital’s major renovation project. Efforts to modernize spaces within the hospital began in 2019 following a multi-million-dollar community fundraising campaign. Since then, HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital has opened a new, state-of-the-art pediatric emergency unit; remodeled its pediatric and pediatric intensive care units; and updated all spaces with new décor, lighting and soothing imagery featuring the natural landscapes of Wisconsin. A new, interactive video wall made up of thirty-two 55-inch TVs is also featured on the main pediatric floor allowing patients and families to play games, dance, watch movies and more.

“At HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital, kids are a big deal,” said Amber Chibuk, Executive Director, HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital. “They’re at the center of everything we do, and we recognized the need to update our facility. To best serve the unique needs of children, we wanted to make sure every detail here is even more tailored to kids.”

Renovations continue, and there is more to come at HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital in 2022: Additional rooms will be added on to the newly remodeled pediatric and pediatric intensive care units; a new family lounge stocked with food and drink, and space for laundry will provide patients’ family members and caregivers a place to replenish and refresh; a new teen lounge will allow teen patients and family members a space to call their own; and a new room specially designed for breastfeeding moms is being created.

“Incredible work is performed inside these walls every single day by people who have made caring for children their life’s work; and now, in state-of-the-art spaces with state-of-the-art technology,” said Amber. “Our new sign is a reflection of this, who we are and what we do. It isn’t just our way of letting you know we are here. It’s our way of making you feel assured that from the moment you arrive here, your child is going to be in the best hands possible.”
