Volunteer

Volunteers are key members of the HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital family. They help carry out the hospital’s healing mission while demonstrating the hospital’s values of Respect, Care, Competence, and Joy.

Our Volunteers play a vital role at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital. More than 115 hospital volunteers collectively contribute more than 16,000 hours of unpaid service each year. They are an integral part of the hospital’s operation and, together with staff these volunteers add another dimension of care and compassion to those we serve.

By becoming a volunteer at HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, you are given opportunities to share your abilities and experiences while at the same time learn new skills and make new friends. Each day as volunteers greet visitors with their friendly smile, escort patients, complete clerical tasks, or work in the gift shop, they lighten the staff’s workload, brighten many people’s spirits, and bring comfort to our patients and their families.

Auxiliary Group

In addition to their volunteer hours within the hospital, members of the auxiliary group known as Partners of HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital, provide significant financial assistance through their fundraising events. For example, the 2016 Christmas Love Lights contributions supported our Emergency Services in purchasing the life-saving LUCAS compression system. Earnings from the annual holiday cookie sales, bakeless bake sale, book sale and our "Taste of Fall" wine and beer tasting event supports the HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital Cancer Services program. Additionally, each year the Partners donate the Gift Shop proceeds directly back to the hospital for the benefit of purchasing equipment to enhance the quality care and comfort of our patients.

We are fortunate and grateful to have people who are generous with their time and resources.
