Our surgery team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff and technicians, go to great lengths to provide you with the best surgical experience possible — meeting your individual needs with the most compassionate of care. That is why we guarantee you a private hospital room if you need an inpatient stay and comfortable waiting rooms for your family, with continuous updates on your surgical status.

In many cases, we offer minimally invasive surgical options, which shortens your recovery time and lessens the risk of complications. Most procedures are done on an outpatient basis and do not require an overnight hospital stay.

HSHS St. Mary’s has trusted board certified surgeons in a broad range of surgical specialties. We recruit surgeons who are not only exceptional in their fields but also employ compassion, reliability and care in their interactions with you.

And your care does not stop when you are discharged from the hospital. Various ongoing support services are available after your surgery.

Robotic-assisted surgery

HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital continues to enhance and modernize its surgical services department with robotic surgical systems. These surgical assets represent the latest in surgical and robotic technologies. While these surgical systems enhance your surgeon's skillset and often improve patient-recovery, your surgeon is still 100% in control of the robot at all times.

Two of the surgical systems in use at St. Mary's are the The da Vinci surgical system (general surgery) and the ExcelsiusGPS™ (neurologic surgery).

Minimally invasive surgeries

HSHS St. Mary’s is on the forefront of providing the community with minimally invasive surgical techniques and equipment. Minimally invasive surgery relies on laparoscopic technology which uses a small camera-like device to help your surgeon see inside your body with a much smaller incision than is typical with traditional surgery. As a patient, this means you can experience less pain, lessen your incidence of infection, have a shorter hospital stay and recover faster than you would with traditional surgery.

St. Mary’s has three specialized operating rooms for minimally invasive surgical procedures, including:

  • Angioplasty
  • Appendectomy
  • Arthroscopic joint surgery
  • Carotid artery stenting
  • Laparoscopic hernia repairs
  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (Gallbladder removal)
  • Robot-assisted Surgery including single-site
