LSVT LOUD speech therapy

Speech therapy may be involved when your communication, thinking or swallowing has been affected by illness or injury. Our skilled speech therapists are specifically trained to restore, rehabilitate and help patients:

  • Improve communication, reading, and/or writing skills
  • Improve a patient’s ability to understand what others are saying
  • Improve a patient’s thinking, math and memory skills, to enhance quality of life and independence
  • Improving swallowing safety and efficiency

HSHS St. Mary's is now offering Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD treatment! This program is a research-based approach that improves the vocal loudness and quality for people diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and other neurological conditions. The LSVT LOUD program is an effective speech treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s and other neurological disorders who are experiencing difficulties effectively communicating with others. These problems can include soft, mumbled, or monotone speech.

Pelvic floor physical therapy

Pelvic floor physical therapy has moved into the Wiesemann Women's Center to better coordinate care.

  • Conditions addressed through pelvic floor physical therapy include:
  • Incontinence
  • Postpartum-related musculoskeletal conditions
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pelvic floor muscle weakness
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction

Pelvic floor dysfunction is a state in which the pelvic floor muscles are behaving irregularly, producing abnormal tone, where the muscles can be either too tense or too weak. Either way, bowel and bladder habits, as well as sexual function can become abnormal.

Often, when people think of physical therapy, they think of a crowded gym filled with therapists, patients, weights and colorful bands. At the Wiesemann Women’s Center, a patient’s therapy session will be one-on-one to establish the personal connection that the Women’s Center is known for.
