Walk and Chalk event set for September 20
July 26, 2024
Thousands of people across the United States and dozens in our community are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital is partnering with Gift of Hope to bring awareness to organ donation and to honor those who have passed while waiting for a transplant, those who were able to donate and those still waiting with a Memorial Walk and Chalk event on Friday, Sept. 20 from 5 – 7 p.m. on the hospital campus.
St. Mary’s Hospital and Gift of Hope invite the community to remember organ donors with a walk around the hospital campus adorned with sidewalk chalk and yard signs honoring those who have given the gift of life.
“We have worked very closely with Gift of Hope over the years to help promote organ and tissue donation,” said Kim Menges, RN, nursing educator at St. Mary’s Hospital. “While an event like this will be the first one held at St. Mary’s, we hope to see the community show out to honor and remember these amazing people.”
To honor an organ donor, recipient or someone still waiting for a transplant with a yard sign on the day of the event, please email their name and picture to Tami Pruetzel at tpruetzel@giftofhope.org by Thursday, Aug. 8. For any additional questions regarding the event, please email Kim Menges at Kim.Menges@hshs.org.
