The pediatric hematology and oncology clinic for SIU School of Medicine is located in St. John's Pavilion. The medical staff, which includes two SIU faculty physicians who are pediatric oncologists, is dedicated to treating the patient and the family, providing the best care possible.

With pediatric oncology services available in Springfield, children and their families can get comprehensive care close to home, saving time and money and limiting stress, despite difficult circumstances.

All types of pediatric cancer are treated, using a multidisciplinary approach. The pediatric oncology team includes a pediatric oncologist, pediatric oncology nurses and other pediatric subspecialists, including surgeons, radiologists and child life specialists. The staff remains involved throughout the course of treatment, offering services designed to fit each patient’s needs. The goal is to provide specialized, quality care, with attention to caring and compassion.

Caring for your child like our own

When the unimaginable happened and Becky's little daughter Shoni was diagnosed with leukemia, she knew God would provide the perfect team to take care of her. Becky found her care team at HSHS St. John's Children's Hospital and is so grateful to them for saving her baby girl's life.

SIU’s Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic diagnoses patients with all varieties of pediatric malignancies, including leukemia, brain tumors, neuroblastoma, Wilms tumor and bone tumors. All patients receive a comprehensive history and physical exam in additional to any necessary radiographic and/or other diagnostic procedure.
Once a diagnosis and complete evaluation is done, every patient is offered treatment through a clinical trial, provided one is available. Trials are available through the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), a national consortium of pediatric sub-specialists dedicated to the care of children, adolescents and young adults with cancer.

New patients should bring results of any test or lab that has been completed prior to the first appointment. Patients should bring their insurance card and any necessary referrals. SIU’s Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic accepts most insurance plans. Billing arrangements are made on an individual basis.
