Flag Raising to Honor Organ Donation Set for April 29
April 21, 2025
Every eight minutes, another person in the United States is added to the organ transplant waiting list, and thousands get a second chance because of individuals who register to become an organ donor.
As part of Donate Life Month, HSHS St. Francis Hospital will host a ceremony on Tuesday, April 29 at 1 p.m. in the hospital lobby to honor organ and tissue donors, recipients and those still waiting. The ceremony is co-sponsored by Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network and Illinois Organ/Tissue Donor Registry. A Gift of Hope flag will also be raised in recognition of April as National Organ Donation Month. Gift of Hope representatives will be on-site with information about organ donation.
More than 103,000 adults and children are currently on the national transplant waiting list, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration.
