Robotic Surgical Services

HSHS St. Elizabeth's offers the latest in surgical and robotic technologies

Robotic-Assisted Surgery

HSHS St. Elizabeth's Hospital offers robotic assisted surgery for gynecology, urology, general surgery, orthopedic and pulmonary procedures. We are the first in the metro-east with two
da Vinci® Xi™ Surgical Systems, and in addition, we have the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution and the Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy system.

With robotic-assisted surgery, your surgeon is 100% in control of the robotic system at all times. The robot translates your surgeon’s hand movements into smaller, precise movements of tiny instruments inside your body.

HSHS St. Elizabeth’s is committed to bringing minimally invasive surgical options to the metro-east and southern Illinois region.

Advantages of Robotic Surgery

  • Smaller incisions
  • Reduced pain and trauma to the body
  • Less scaring
  • Faster recovery and return to normal daily activities

Da Vinci Surgical System with Firefly Technology

Robotic surgery suite at HSHS St. Elizabeth's HospitalThe da Vinci Surgical System allows surgeons to operate through just a few small incisions and is used for the following procedures:

  • Hysterectomy
  • Nephrectomy
  • Gallbladder removal
  • Hernia Repair
  • Prostatectomy

The da Vinci features a magnified 3D high-definition vision system and tiny-wristed instruments that bend and rotate far greater than the human hand.

As a result, da Vinci enables your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision and control. This contributes to less pain, reduced length of stay, reduced blood loss and reduced risk of complication and infection.

The da Vinci also has a Firefly™ Fluorescence Imaging system, which allows your surgeon to identify vessels and tissue that otherwise couldn’t be seen by the human eye.

Firefly combines a special video camera and a dye that binds to proteins to make those vessels and tissue visible during minimally invasive surgical procedures using the da Vinci.

VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution

The VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution is used by our orthopedic surgeons for partial and total knee replacement. With greater accuracy, minimal scarring, faster recovery and lasting results, you can quickly return to your active life.

Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy

The Ion bronchoscopy system is a minimally-invasive, robot-assisted surgical system that allows surgeons to examine the lungs and obtain biopsies from hard-to-reach areas.

This system represents a significant advancement in the ability to diagnose and treat lung diseases effectively.
