HSHS St. Elizabeth’s is now offering additional peace of mind for expectant moms by offering an Obstetric Emergency Department (OB ED) for women experiencing a pregnancy-related complication or emergency, available 24/7.
What is an Obstetric Emergency Department?
St. Elizabeth’s OB ED is for women at least 16 weeks pregnant or post-partum who are experiencing a pregnancy emergency such as, but not limited to:
- Abdominal pain
- Preterm labor
- Preeclampsia
- Abnormal vaginal bleeding
- Ruptured membranes
- Decreased fetal movement
- Increased blood pressure
How does it work?
Once arriving at St. Elizabeth’s Emergency Department, on the 1st floor, and reporting a pregnancy-related emergency, expectant moms will be transported to a dedicated area in the Women and Infants Center that is a fully equipped ER space and staffed by highly specialized obstetricians and clinicians.
This team includes experienced OB hospitalists who specialize in obstetric medicine and practice solely in the hospital environment. Alongside our experienced OB nurses, the team will:
- Monitor any labor progress.
- Provide treatment of any pregnancy or post-partum related complications or emergencies.
- Communicate with the patient’s primary OB/Gyn.
If concerns arise during your pregnancy when your doctor is not available, St. Elizabeth’s is here to help and provide peace of mind at a precious time.
