Talk to an Orthopedic Surgeon about joint pain

April 05, 2022

Joint pain can make even normal tasks like bending over or tying a shoe difficult, if not impossible. Joint replacement surgery is among several treatment options for joint pain, but the idea of a major surgery brings up many questions for patients.

Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgeon Travis Junge, MD, specializes in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of conditions and injuries of the bones, muscles, joints and tendons.

“Joint replacement surgery is certainly a lot to think about,” says Dr. Junge. “It is a big, life changing procedure that takes some recovery time. However, when performed on the right patient, it is an amazing surgery that dramatically improves their quality of life, and the reality is that the vast majority of patients will have a good experience. I encourage patients not to let the fear of a big surgery or the recovery process prevent you from having a conversation with your surgeon about options.”

According to Dr. Junge, total joint replacement may be a good option for you if:

  • Joint pain interrupts your activities on a regular basis
  • You are experiencing chronic joint pain with no relief
  • Treatments no longer provide the relief you need
  • You are experiencing pain that keeps you from doing the things you love or spending time comfortably with your loved ones.

“It is amazing to restore function to my patients who have been suffering for a while. To hear them talk about the things they can't do prior to surgery and to watch them return to the activities that bring them joy after surgery is rewarding,” says Dr. Junge.
