National Rural Health Day is Thursday, Nov. 21

November 20, 2024

OCONTO FALLS, Wis. – National Rural Health Day, founded by the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health will be celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 21. The day highlights critical roles filled by rural hospitals and health care clinics across the country, while recognizing the value these rural health care providers bring to rural communities, like Oconto County.

Together, HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital and Prevea Health operate five Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) throughout Oconto County. The health care teams at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital Prevea Health Centers located in Oconto Falls, Gillett, Lena, Mountain and Suring are proud to provide primary care, lab and radiology services to all their neighbors. These clinics not only provide advanced health care options to patients, but they also present employment opportunities for residents throughout the region. The services offered at these health care clinics and at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls help ensure rural residents have access to high-quality, modern health care options close to home.

“Our team of doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants at our rural health clinics and hospital are passionate about providing expert care, in a timely manner, right here in the community,” said Colleen Koski, Chief Administrative Officer at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital. “If someone in the Oconto County region needs anything from a couple of stiches for a cut to total knee replacement surgery, our team at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital and our partnering health clinics can help.”

Nationally, it’s estimated 57 million Americans – one in five people – live in rural and frontier communities throughout the United States. With Oconto County being one of the largest and more rural counties in the state of Wisconsin, covering nearly one-thousand square miles, convenient access to first class care at HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital Prevea Health Centers and HSHS St. Clare Memorial Hospital improves the quality of life for area residents and visitors.

“Our neighbors and tourists alike, all benefit from the advanced care options that we’re able to offer across Oconto County,” said Colleen. “Many of our patients come to our hospital in Oconto Falls for immediate care at our Emergency Department and we’re always ready for them – 24/7. The five rural health clinics serve an invaluable purpose for our community too. Through offering family medicine and primary care services at the majority of those clinics, we can treat, manage, and diagnose so many of our neighbors’ health care concerns – and we’re very proud of that.”
